David H Denton, S.C. has a national legal practice and practises in the commercial and appellate divisions of the Federal Court , the Supreme Courts in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania; the Planning & Environment Court of Queensland and in VCAT. He also practises and appears in the superior courts in Fiji.

He has a keen interest in commercial arbitration and in all aspects of company law, especially insolvency and shareholder disputes; planning and environmental tort matters.

He is a Certified Arbitrator and an experienced nationally accredited Mediator and holds or has held the following positions:

• President, Commercial Bar Association ("CommBar");
• Adjunct Professor, Victoria Law School, Victoria University, Melbourne;
• President, Australian Institute for Commercial Arbitration Inc.;
• Fellow (Certified Arbitrator), Australian Institute for Commercial Arbitration;
• Chair - Deputy Chair, Corporations and Securities Law Section of CommBar;
• Fellow, Australian Institute of Company Directors;
• Honorary Secretary, International Commission of Jurists (Australian Section) in Victoria;
• Author of a number of practice texts and papers in relation to commercial law and insolvency
• Chairman, ‘Law Hawks’, In-House Legal Coterie, Hawthorn Football Club.

He has chambers arrangements in Sydney and Brisbane and otherwise maintains chambers:
- in Melbourne at Chancery Chambers;
- in Hobart at Republic Chambers; and
- in Cairns at Macrossan Chambers.
