Welcome
CHANCERY CHAMBERS is a leading independent set of barristers’ chambers in Melbourne, Australia, comprising 13 Senior Counsel and 12 junior counsel (and our readers) practising in Commercial, Construction, Revenue and Family Law. Barristers in these chambers have reputations for the highest standards in advocacy and advisory opinion work. Our expertise spans a broad range of civil dispute resolutions including court appearances, arbitrations and mediations. Within this broad range of advocacy expertise individual barristers concentrate on particular areas of practice. Drawing on a very wide range of skills among our barristers, we are able to make available the appropriate level of seniority and expertise to meet clients’ individual needs.
Established on 1 December 1997 our Chambers are centrally located in Melbourne at Levels 25 and 26, 200 Queen Street, Melbourne in the State of Victoria, Australia. We offer facilities for mediations and large conferences and the chambers are fully networked utilising the latest electronic aides to legal practice and we offer every assistance in litigation support that may be needed. As barristers we are retained to appear and advise in all jurisdictions throughout Australia. Subject to the Rules of Conduct of the Victorian Bar we accept Direct Access retainers.
These Chambers have had a long and distinguished association with the law. The Hon. Diana Bryant QC was a member of these Chambers prior to her appointment as Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia (having previously served as Chief Federal Magistrate of the Federal Magistrates’ Court of Australia). In 2010 the Hon John R Dixon, S.C., a founding member of chambers, was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria. In earlier years from 1982 until 1997 the chambers also served as the Australian High Court Judges’ Chambers in Melbourne for the Hon Justice Sir Keith Aickin, the Hon Justice Sir Daryl Dawson and the Hon Justice Ken Hayne. For many years the chambers provided the Melbourne offices of former Commonwealth Directors of Public Prosecution: the Hon Justice Mark Weinberg and County Court Chief Judge Michael Rozenes, prior to their judicial appointments.
From the curricula vitae on this website you will observe that all counsel in Chancery Chambers are experienced in their fields. Each of us strive for excellence in our roles as legal advisers and advocates.
We welcome you to our website and to our Chambers.
